Trisha Genesis sets sights on new chapter with Capital1

After a series of challenges and setbacks, Trisha Genesis is back where she belongs—on the volleyball court.

This time, with a new team and a renewed passion for the game, the 5-foot-7 outside spiker is eager to rekindle the fire that once made her one of the most promising young talents in the sport.

Genesis’ journey to the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) has been a roller coaster, marked by highs and lows that have only fueled her determination. It all began in 2022, when she made her PVL debut with Akari in the league's Reinforced Conference.

But it was during her time with Adamson University that she truly shone, leading the Lady Falcons to a playoff spot in UAAP Season 84—her performance propelling her to the top ranks of the league's best.

That season, Genesis emerged as the sixth-best scorer with 184 total points.

With three more years of eligibility left in the collegiate ranks, the Laguna-native decided to skip them and pursue a professional career. While her decision was bold, it wasn’t without its struggles. Opportunities were few and far between.

A transfer to Nxled during the 2024 Reinforced Conference promised a fresh start, but limited playing time once again kept Genesis from making her mark.

Despite the challenges, Genesis was determined to push forward. When Capital1 came knocking midway through the 2024-25 PVL All-Filipino Conference, it was a chance she couldn’t pass up.

“Parang fresh nga ulit sa PVL kasi new system, ibang taong kasama, mga never kong nakasama dati pa, even the coaches. Talagang back to zero,” Genesis shared after making her debut with the Solar Spikers.

In her very first match, Genesis was thrust into the starting lineup—a clear sign of the trust coach Roger Gorayeb had in her abilities.

Despite Capital1’s 0-3 loss to the defending champions, Creamline, Genesis made an immediate impact, leading the team in scoring with 10 points, alongside five excellent receptions.

“Super happy, sobrang saya makabalik sa taraflex at makalaro na sa bago kong team. Sa nilaro po namin ngayon, para sa akin, okay siya kasi nakipagsabayan po kami, knowing Creamline na defending champion talaga,” she said.

Genesis' arrival is a welcome boost for Capital1, who are currently struggling with a 1-5 record, sitting at 10th place in the standings.

Her inclusion in the team provides much-needed depth and experience, especially under the guidance of Gorayeb, a seasoned coach known for his ability to draw the best from his players.

For Genesis, the feeling of being trusted again was a powerful motivator.

“Thank you so much po, lalong-lalo na sa mga coaches, kay Coach Roger, kasi paglipat ko pa lang, yung tiwala niya agad sakin, buong-buo. Thank you so much coach at sa teammates ko po kasi talagang tinanggap nila ako nang buo. Talagang yung tiwala nila, hindi kalahati, but 101 percent,” she shared.
